Fly on the Wall

Mixed 5 bands this weekend, bars are great places to people watch. You can watch a relationship start, bloom & then die an often amusing death in a span of 3 hours, thank you alcohol....you do entertain. Rodney King said it best; "Can't we all just get along?" Short answer..NO! Short reason; Religion & Politics. We kill each other over faith and theories, these are constructs and beliefs, nothing tangible, no spoils to the victor. It's just my side wants to wipe out your side. Do we want one world where everyone thinks alike, worships alike and behaves alike....Sounds like one of those other worlds that the crew of the Starship Enterprise encounters, kind of a thick as paper utopia that shreads apart with the first hints of friction.

You know who gets along? A great band. It's almost like telepathy the way a band communicates non verbally on a really smoking night. Last night worked with Jazz Chronic who opened up for Snarky Puppy, simply put, AWSOME! You know what makes a mix sound good? A great band. Music seems to help people get along, brings smiles to peoples faces, helps to erase the tension and anxiety that we have created for ourselves. How do our leaders use music? They crank really obnoxious music non stop at stupid loud levels to make people move on. Using good for evil just sucks, and really shows the true heart of the American Politician...Fuck em all!!

Sometimes your the windshield....

Our brains have remained unchanged for the past 20,000 years. When our current brain came about, we lived in communities or tribes with about 50 - 100 people. In this setting everyone knew and cared about each other, everyone also had a role in the life cycle of the community. In todays society, even in small cities we see and interact with thousands of people and know none of them. Not knowing leads real easily into not caring about them as well. I will say this about us humans, when a disaster strikes we pull together and raise huge chunks of money to help the needy, I will also say this.....People profit off of this money, or in some contries just take it, very little gets to the common man. Do you suppose that at some point in our history 1 individual made a decision and set in action our current state of affairs. Who is this person and how far back do we have to go to find him, I bet Cro-Magnum new him and consequently got fed to the fishes.
Worked with the Band Danger Muffin last night, awsome band even though their name both intrigued and frightened me a little bit. Funky americana with songwriting talent out the ass, great people as well.

Bigger is Better

Are bigger brains better? Probably, yes, but it seems that the more "advanced" we become the more we short circuit. Anti Depressent use is at an all time high and only growing. Personally speaking, when our office server goes down some people sorta panic. For me it means no phone calls so I kinda like it. Now imagine when this happens on a huge scale, and it will, we will be screwed and people will suffer. It seems that we have thought ourselves into a potentially catastrophic future with our big brains. I mix 2 bands tonight at different venues, same schedule tomorrow evening, this ought to be like those date with 2 girls the same night movies so popular in the 80's. I also work my regular job both days. I'm very lucky in that I love what I do, but this is how I have to schedule my life to be able to bring pollen to my queen bee.

This Bugs Me

Creationism, evolution, some kind of mix or nothing. Is the purpose of life to work 50 - 70 hours a week to get by? As Humans we classify ourselvs as high functioning mammals; like porpoises, whales, elephants as well as most primates. As societies we behave more like insects; bees and ants come to mind. We colonize and swarm until everything in our path is destroyed, we don't migrate and give the Earth time to rebuild itself, we pave it.
